On a more personal note on ME~
Today Mike and I went to our Community Center to volunteer our time to help make food packets for "KIDS Against Hunger"
I must say this was really FUN! It touched my heart and it made me really appreciate that I never grew up hungry and that my children have food on the table every day. It also breaks my heart to know that there are so many children that go days without food.
After speaking to many of the children that were also there helping they all had so much fun! They said that this is their Valentines gift to all of those kids! They are all looking forward to doing this again.
Mike has some pictures posted on his blog of what went on there today. So just click here and go see how Kids helping Kids can help to make a difference. For more information and if you would like to make a donation just click here
Just wondering if any of you got the chance to read the Albert Lea Tribune on Thursday February 10th? Well the Tribune had asked for people to send in stories on how you met your significant other for a Valentines publication. I really did not think that my story would be printed but I was having fun writing it! I had actually forgotten all about it until my oldest daughter Rani, told me she was reading it! So in case you missed it here it is.
White sneakers, blue eyes, black jeans, butterflies and a special kiss
Do you remember the song, "It's in his Kiss" by Cher? Well, that is the song that came on the radio when my date asked me, "Would it be ok to give you a kiss?" I knew right then that Mike was "The One." And that song stood true.
I had never been on the computer for Internet dating, and I really never even knew what it was all about until an ad popped up on the computer for Cupid.com. I was actually looking for old classmates so I clicked on it to go check it out.
I had seen a lot of people on the site and only one person caught my eye. He had the bluest, dancing eyes with a smile that was so sincere! I read his profile, and he was a two-time organ donator. I knew this person was a very caring person so I sent him an e-mail.
After about three weeks, we finally got to talk to each other and about two weeks later we met. I was still a little leery because you hear a lot of stories about things that go on from the Interned. My friends and family knew of our plan to meet in a different town, in broad daylight with lots of people around me! I had to still be cautious.
Butterflies were fluttering in my stomach, and I felt like I was in high school all over again! There were a lot of what-ifs running through my head while I drove a half an hour to meet this new person. I wondered would he even like me because he never did get to see a picture of me. He was going by the description that I gave to him.
There he was smiling ear to ear! He took off those sunglasses, and I saw those baby blues. his bright, white tennis shoes stood out like a sore thumb against his black jeans. Next my eyes noticed a black, tucked-in T-shirt with some design on the front, and he wore a black leather jacket. In my head, all I could think about was Johnny Cash.
Those butterflies were still fluttering, and I was so nervous with excitement. Here I was almost 36 years old, and I felt like I was 16 all over again! We went into the restaurant for coffee and conversation. I was laughing inside but was smiling on the outside because I kept wondering how this guy could drink coffee and chew gum at the same time.
We decided to go see a movie, got a bite to eat, and we parted with a kiss while the song on the radio from Cher cam on. Oh, yes, it was in his kiss!
Now with tears in my eyes as I write this and over seven years of married memories with two beautiful girls together, he also gained a step-daughter, and we have three sweet grandchildren, here we are today.
Mike and I still joke around how we met and about those bright, white tennis shoes that he wore. And the gum, well, he hated the taste of coffee, but he knew I loved coffee so he wanted to impress me. To this day, he still has not taken a sip of coffee, but I love him more than words can say.
